When it comes to our hair, we are our own worst enimies. Our daily routines and products cause split ends and steal moisture from our hair leaving it dried and damaged.
Styling our hair by blow-drying, straightening, coloring, and curling contribute heavily to dry hair and unsightly split ends. But with all that we do to our hair, this damage can be prevented and treated -- with more than a hair cut!
Here are 8 rules to taking care of your hair to leave your hair healthy and shinning.
1. Shampoo in Warm Water.
Warm water opens the cuticals on our hair so that added conditioner will penetrate deep into the hair shaft and begin moisterizing hair on contact. The moisture our hair will hold from the conditioner and warm water will strengthen our hair shaft, prevent splent ends.
2. Properly Condition Hair
After shamppoing, add a good moisturizing hair conditioner and leave in for 3 to 5 minutes. If possible, wrap your hair in a towel and let the conditioner sink in for at least 15 minutes. This will establish good moisture levels and will help prevent split ends from occuring. Rise the conditioner with cool water to close hair cuticals to lock in moiturizing and conditioning agents.
3. Deep Condition
Deep conditioning your hair at least once a month will help repair damaged hair and strengthen to prevent damage and breakage.
4. Wait Between Treatments
Over treating your hair with color and relaxing treatments causes further damage and doesn't allow our time to have a break between harsh chemical treatments. And never relax and color your hair at the same time!
5. Wet Hair Treatment
When your hair is wet, if you must brush your hair, use a wide-tooth comb. Be sure to add a silicone based product with no alcohol to ensure smooth movements through your hair.
6. Dry Hair Treatment
When your hair is dry, use a soft-bristled brush for more a gentle approach to brushing your hair. Often times damage and breakage occurs when styling our dry hair so best to be on the gentle side while dry.
7. Go Ionic
Ionic blow dryers lock in moisture and helps prevent split ends from occuring. Well moisturized hair reduces the breaking-down of your hair cuticals, one of the main causes of split ends.
